The Jefferson Parish Workforce Investment Board (WIB) oversees the local workforce development system in Jefferson Parish through one-stop career centers that combine multiple federal, state and local programs. The WIB develops policy to ensure that the system is market-driven, is easily accessible to any individual who is seeking employment or training, and supplies a well-trained workforce for local employers. The WIB is comprised of volunteer members from the private and public sectors. Private sector members constitute the majority of the WIB's membership and represent employers in diverse industries and of various sizes. Other members represent local government, educational institutions, organized labor, economic development and social service agencies. Areas of emphasis for the Jefferson WIB include:
> Serving as a workforce broker, bringing employers and qualified applicants together.
> Linking employers and individuals to education and training programs.
> Promoting long-term employability and life-long learning by providing constant access to desired skills training.
> Preparing youth for employment in the region's most vital industries.
> Providing access to current workforce data, labor market information and job listings.
